CNC-lathes are capable of creating complicated operations in a clear and easy-to-use user interface. Multi-directional turning must be done with tooling equipment specially developed for that purpose, making it possible to perform complex single-bit profiles and grooves. Multi-directional turning tables are using tools which can be perform both axial and rotational movements.
Normal tools have difficulty in absorbing the forces upon axial turning. By using special indexable inserts, the deflection that occurs during longitudinal rotation is corrected. The indexable inserts is in the loaded position (when rotated) in the correct position, resulting in a freewheel. This deflection must be corrected otherwise deviations on the product diameters arise.
Sometimes it is more interesting and depending on the availability of the machines to process the product on a combination of turning and milling machines to shorten the delivery time.
Turning is especially interesting when longer cylindercal shaped work pieces needs to be processed. Lathes are faster compared to milling machines while offering the same quality and precision. The big advantage of CNC turning is that roundings, cones and threads are easy applied to the work piece.
