Requirements
When specific requirements for the roughness and tolerance are set, drilling the metal is the perfect solution. Once the holes are cut, it is possible to edit and process the drilled holes further for example by clearing the holes. When clearing a hole after it has been drilled, a cleaner cut with higher precision can be delivered. Looking for a specific or custom-made solution? contact one of our advisors.
Threating
Threading is the process of creating a screw thread in a work piece. In general two different methods can be used to create the desired thread in the working piece: threat cutting or rolling.
Thread rolling is rolling the thread into the material, this way no swarf is created during the process. During the process the material is compressed together to make sure no loss of strenght is caused. Thread cutting is used when full thread depth or a tapered thread is required. When the material is too brittle, cutting is also a better method compared to rolling to prevent any loss of strenght to the material.
Dimensions
Our drilling machines can handle diameters up to 50 mm and a depth up to 200 mm. When looking for holes under a specific angle in the working piece, our 5 axis milling machine can create the perfect holes with the highest precision.
When drilling is no option, milling can create even larger holes. Our 80P duoblock can mill products up to 1250 mm in lenght making the largest products with the highest precision. Our new 60P duoblock can mill products up to 900 mm and is equiped with a large amount of different tools.
Materials
SMI Verspaning can drill holes into; steel, high strength steel, wear resistant steel, stainless steel and aluminum. Depending on the application and purpose of the final product, SMI can give the necessary advice on which materials should be used and the size of the holes for maximum strenght. For our offshore market, it is common that high strength steel is used as these products have to handle heavy loads and structures.
Our in-house expertise makes sure that the quality and properties of the materials such as high strength steel and aluminum are not lost during the drilling process.
